How to “Restore” Music from Tumblr
Back when people still used CDs, my Uncle would use an odd bit of logic to justify copying his entire CD library for me:
CDs are so fragile and easily susceptible to damage that making back ups is the best way to preserve your music collection. And it would be foolish to keep your backup copy with the original. What if there was a fire or flood or some other terrible natural disaster? The obvious place to keep your back-ups are with a friend. Just for safekeeping. I can’t be responsible for what they do with it.

That in mind, if some “natural disaster” wipes out your music collection and you need to retrieve music that you posted on tumblr previously, here’s how to do it. Of course, this could also be used to take other peoples music, but that would be illegal…First open up “your” audio post in Safari. You know, Safari? You remember that program right? Trust me, it’s easier to do this in Safari than in Firefox. Open the web page of just that singular blog post, as if you were going to reblog the audio piece from the individual tumblr and not your dashboard. This will make it easier to track down the file. Click play on the tumblr player so you can watch it load. Now, go up to the menu bar, select window and then select activity. This will bring up a window with lots of things you don’t need BUT each line has a file size associated with it all the way to the right. Look for the largest file size. This is “your” song.If you were Johnny on the Spot with the Activity window it may still be loading but that doesn’t really matter. Double click that file. This will bring up a new window with that standard Quicktime player you see all the time. As you did with the tumblr player, let the song load all the away. Once it’s loaded, all you need to do is click the downward facing arrow and select “Save Source As.” Rename the file and save it to your computer. Congrats. You just “restored” an audio file from tumblr. Now you can “restore” all the files that were damaged in forest fires.

“Let’s put a smile on that face.”
Sorry about talking about the Dark Knight again, but Gotham IS Chicago in that movie. They didn’t even try to hide it.  This is LaSalle St, where the police parade/funeral was and the chase scene where the truck flips over.

I hope I look like John Slattery when I’m older.  Mad Men is back next week.

It's getting closer

juliaheffernan:

Just signed up for my fall classes:

Intro to Video Art (I have no idea what this will be like)

Into to Video Art will probably feel more like Intro to How Little I Know About the Contemporary Art World. It was for me.

You’ll see lots of naked people. Lots of shaky camera work. Lots of long takes. And lots of classmates questioning their faith in art school.

Anyone saying any shit about Heath Ledger not getting an Oscar nod because The Dark Knight is a ‘comic book’ movie should shut up and see the film first.  He’s brilliant.

My Super Villain

  • Me: The Tailor
  • Craig: you custom make suits out of your enemies skins
  • Craig: or better yet, defeat superhereos by embarrasing them with ugly ill-fitting tights
  • Me: I was thinking i carry a giant pair of scissors and say things like, "Looks like you need to be taken in a bit!" SNIP
  • Craig: hahahahaha

“Last minute” Dark Knight costume.
Started it yesterday afternoon and finished painting it now. I hadn’t planned on making one till very late tuesday night so it’s a bit rushed.
It’s sculpted from paper mache (I hate that name.  Makes me think of 3rd grade science projects).  If I had given myself more time I would have made it out of latex, which I’ve been wanting to give a second try since I destroyed my basement carpet with it over four years ago.
